Verizon Communications, the multinational telecommunications conglomerate, recently featured Angel MedFlight in its “Up to Speed” feature highlighting how the air ambulance company advances healthcare through use of technology.

Air ambulance medical flights create an increasingly complicated endeavor that interweaves aviation, health care, and logistics. Creating a robust communication network allows Angel MedFlight to triage incoming calls from family members and hospital case managers and quickly deploy the right aircraft and clinical team for every patient medical flight across the United States and globally.

“Centers of excellence across the country and our patients depend on us to get them to their next level of care,” Ray Mallaire, Director of IT says. “Established partnerships with companies like Verizon help us drive the technology and workflows that allow our teams to quickly and rapidly respond to the needs of our patients.”

Mallaire and his team have integrated technology provided by Verizon and other global partners and developed and enhanced AMF’s platform that leads the air ambulance industry in rapid response and customer service. Verizon recently came out to the Angel MedFlight headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona to learn more about how the company has integrated its technology into the AMF medical flight platform.

Technology Advances Keep Clinicians Informed

Healthcare clinicians no longer rely on paper charts and archaic systems to track and treat patients. As technology has evolved, so have healthcare providers. According to “Patient Safety and Quality: An Evidence-Based Handbook for Nurses”, Patient care technology has become increasingly complex, transforming the way nursing care is conceptualized and delivered. Before extensive application of technology, nurses relied heavily on their senses of sight, touch, smell, and hearing to monitor patient status and to detect changes. Technology has helped healthcare providers like Angel MedFlight prevent errors and adverse events like medication needs, miscommunications, and treatment delays.

The Coming of 5G Technology

As Verizon focuses on expanding its network to 5G technology, healthcare providers like AMF will benefit. Paul Green, Chief Development Officer, sees 5G technology as endless possibilities. According to Verizon, its 5G Ultra Wideband’s ultrafast speeds and increased bandwidth will make possible things like intelligent video; smart cities; virtual and augmented reality; advanced, low-latency robotics; self-driving cars; immersive collaboration experiences; and so much more. As it relates to the air ambulance industry, this means quicker response times, faster communication and an increased ability to treat and serve our patient community.
