Each year we celebrate case managers everywhere by reaching out to hear from you with our annual Get Away Giveaway Contest just in time for National Case Management week. We’d like to thank all of the case management professionals who entered last year – we received more than 1,110 entries from across the country. Thank you for getting involved and sharing how we can support your work this year.
Our winner, Ruth, was randomly selected via drawing last year. She is a Case Manager in Morris, Illinois. Ruth received an $800 airfare voucher for Southwest, her airline of choice.
1. How long have you been in Case Management?
“I have fifteen years in a hospital setting working with all general populations. I currently work in an 89-bed acute care hospital. Previously, I briefly did some Worker’s Compensation Case Management work.”
2. What is the best part of your job?
“Being able to successfully assist patients and families with a safe discharge plan to meet their needs. I am very comfortable with discussing death and dying, code status, and having the hospice discussion with patients and their families. Being able to ease their minds and concerns and see the relief on their faces or hear their words of gratitude is very rewarding.”
3. How would you describe your peers in the Case Management Community?
“Case managers are some of the most knowledgeable and resourceful healthcare professionals I know. As a bedside nurse, I don’t think you ever completely appreciate or understand what case managers do behind-the-scenes every day.”
4. What would you say to someone considering a career in Case Management?
“We are always learning and adapting to the changing healthcare environment and patient populations. It is a challenging, but rewarding career choice that shouldn’t be taken lightly.”
5. What will you do with your airfare?
“My husband turns 60 this year and we are hoping to celebrate with a family trip.”
